Mentoring is a practical tool for fostering youth integration, transferring skills, and strengthening the ties between businesses and society. Yet, many small and medium-sized enterprises still have questions about how to get involved, the time commitment required, or which solutions best suit their organization.

When seniors help the youth
DUO for a JOB brings together two groups dedicated to closing the employment gap for young immigrants. By leveraging the expertise of our senior mentors, we combat discrimination and foster social connections that help these young people from abroad enter the workforce. Joining us on RCF Notre-Dame are Stéphanie Lefebvre, Director of the Hauts-de-France branch of DUO for a JOB, and Maryline Girard, a volunteer mentor with the organization.

Prunelle Gorget is the French director of DUO for a JOB, an association that offers an intergenerational and intercultural mentoring program that allows young people with an immigration background to be supported for 6 months in their job search by mentors over 50 years old.
In France, the unemployment rate for working people aged 15 to 24 reached 17.2% in 2023 according to Injep (National Institute of Youth and Popular Education). And the difficulties of accessing the labour market were particularly marked among young people with an immigration background from outside the European Union, regardless of their level of qualification.

This is a first in France: two associations obtain the Mentoring Label, created by the Mentoring Collective to promote and strengthen the quality of mentoring programs, through the evaluation of 47 standards. Fatoumata Baba, director of Duo for a Job Marseille: Our association offers a mentoring program to facilitate access to employment for young people with an immigration background by putting them in contact with volunteers over 50 years old. The latter, called “mentors”, share their experience to help young people integrate into the labour market. Each duo thus formed meets once a week, for 6 months, to make progress on the objectives and approaches defined together.
With 600 mentors active throughout the country, the DUO for a JOB association runs a turnkey program aimed at supporting young people with an immigrant background in the employment process. Through regular meetings, the young 'mentees' are supported by mentors over 50 years of age. Enriching meetings, shared with us by Jeanne Husson, mentoring program manager.
