In the Terra Nova report, published this month: “Immigrant workers: with or without them?” , the observation is unquestionable. Without immigration, our economy, health system, and social model would collapse.
In 2040, to maintain the current level of our social protection, we would need 310,000 new migrant workers per year. And this, even while maximizing the birth rate and the participation of young people, women and seniors in the labor market.
The core of the problem? Our demographics are running out of steam and our needs are exploding.
Beyond the cliches: who are these workers really? They are nurses, home helpers, construction workers, cooks... But also doctors, engineers, computer scientists or finances. Millions of people drive our country's most essential sectors.
And yet, the same phrases come up again:
“They are too expensive” “They're taking our jobs” FAKE. The numbers say the opposite. Contrary to popular belief, immigrants contribute positively to the French economy. They contribute an average of 23 billion euros net per year to GDP. Without them, 30% of nursing homes would have to close and half of the construction sites would be stopped.
Although their contribution is immense, their professional career is often full of pitfalls: downgrading, precariousness, discrimination in hiring... These are all obstacles that must be urgently removed in order to reveal their full potential.
Our conviction at DUO for a JOB We see it every day: professional integration requires the recognition of skills, the transmission of know-how, and human relationships. And that starts with deconstructing preconceived ideas.
Because behind every statistic, there are women and men who simply want to contribute, in their own way, to our society. And we have everything to gain by giving them the means to do so.
