Their names are Vanessa, Daniela, Gift, or even Hassatou. They arrived or grew up in France with dreams, a career, a desire to build their professional future. But on their way, a double obstacle: that of gender and that of origin. Two forms of discrimination that are superimposed and reinforced, making professional integration more difficult. Intergenerational mentoring is a lever for overcoming them.

A look back at a first year of intergenerational mentoring in the heart of La Duchère. ‍

At DUO for a JOB, we focus our efforts on our core business, intergenerational mentoring. By supporting our duos, we act at the crossroads of several major social and societal challenges: the professional integration of young people, the enhancement of skills and the retention of people over 50 in employment, the integration of first-time arrivals, the fight against discrimination based on origin, equal opportunities and social cohesion. Because these challenges are multiple and interconnected, joining several groups of actors committed to our subjects seemed essential to us to work transversely; to promote mentoring and the priorities of our audiences; to contribute at our level to showing the strength of strike and the essential societal impacts of the associative sector in France.

Nathalie, 64, has been taking advantage of her end-of-career leave to work as a volunteer mentor at DUO for a JOB since 2023. After a busy career in market finance, she finds mentoring a very refreshing human dimension and has already accompanied three young people towards employment.

Prunelle Gorget is the French director of DUO for a JOB, an association that offers an intergenerational and intercultural mentoring program that allows young people with an immigration background to be supported for 6 months in their job search by mentors over 50 years old.
